I would define my classes as fun, engaging and interactive. As a drama graduate I believe that the most successful classes are those that generate confidence in a student. My classes are a safe space for students to speak, ask questions about and practice

My first teaching experience was as an 11 year old, I helped my younger nephew with his homework. I created games and drawings such as word searches and charades to kept his attention. Using creative flair and such fun activities I was able to help him understand grammatical errors and complete his homework. Having attended a Welsh school where students and teachers only speak the Welsh language, I developed an interest for other people’s cultures and languages. I believe my experience of learning two languages from a young age has given me an insight into how learning a new language feels and how different one language is to the next. As a part of my work experience I volunteered at my local stables, assisting the teacher during her lessons. I cleaned the stables and learned about time management, punctuality and the 9-5 routine. I also helped the disabled children that came twice a week meet, greet and ride the horses in their lessons. I chose to do my week’s work experience during my GCSE’s at my primary school. It was extremely enjoyable and I managed to assist in five different classes ranging from levels 1-3 key stages. Watching and assisting the teachers taught me how a class runs smoothly and efficiently. Maintaining the classes attention and order remained the priority for each key stage. The teachers explained each activity or new subject carefully by repeating and rephrasing. This is a skill I later used when put on the table with the children who struggled to understand things as quickly as the rest of the class. The teacher asked me to explain a difficult topic after she tried to demystify minus number to the class. I drew on the white board the number 0 and the numbers 1-5 on one side of the zero and the same in minus numbers on the other side. Rather than explaining through speaking, I discovered drawing and dissecting a concept in this way worked better. Both my BTech Performing Arts and my Drama BA Hons Degree prepared me with teaching skills. For both courses I was asked to use Educational Theatre to teach the audience. In my BTech Performing Arts course we were asked to travel around primary schools to teach primary school children how to prepare for secondary school. Through the use of Theatre in Education we created an engaging and informative performance. My degree gave me similar skills but tailored for Educational Theatre for adults. We were frequently asked to create presentations that were both entertaining and informal. This
