Aimee Dobie

Hello,

My name is Aimee. I am 22 years old and from Scotland. This summer I graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Psychology. I love travelling to see & understand the world. So far I am loving my time in Madrid, I work as a language assistant in a school in Fuenlabrada and find it to be extremely rewarding.I teach all ages from 12-18. As well as English, I am also involved in aiding the teaching of Biology, Physics and Chemistry in the bilingual program.

I try to make my classes as useful as possible, always including a 'IRL (in real life)' slide to make sure my students can see when they will use the language in a real-life scenario, as I know a lot of them can feel frustrated and like they are being taught information that will become useless to them after the exam. For this reason, I try to keep my classes as interactive as possible to, allow the students to engage with the material themselves instead of simply being told about it. I strive to be a role model to the children I teach and to make real difference info their lives. I am passionate about helping them identify their strengths and become confident in themselves. I think that teachers are such important people in a child's life and making each individual feel heard and important is such a crucial part of the job.

So far I have loved my experience and I am even considering re-applying for a second year. My personal goals as a teacher are to see my students excel in their subjects and self-confidence. Every week I love seeing them become more self-assured in their skills. I want my lessons to be relevant and interesting for all students of all ages. I am continually striving to create classes that are different to the usual dynamic of a teacher standing in front of a class and speaking at them. I want the students to be actively doing something each lesson and give them something to consider every time they leave the class.
