Secondary computer science teacher KS2~KS3

I have been teaching Computing at KS2-KS3 level for several years and during this time I have developed a deep understanding of how to engage young learners in my subject. I like to ensure my students have access to innovative and effective teaching techniques by keeping up to date with the latest educational tools and resources. With my experience in technology and education, I can advise students on how to apply the skills they learn today to their future careers.

Always strive to create a classroom environment where students will feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and exploring new ideas, the best way to learn!

Students spend a significant amount of time coding. For younger students or beginners, I use block-based coding platforms like Scratch, while older or more advanced students might work with text-based languages like Python. The aim is to develop logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Learning computer science can be challenging and I believe in providing the support and encouragement students need to succeed. I regularly conduct assessments helping me to monitor progress and provide detailed feedback to help students progress. I also encourage self-assessment and reflection, which helps students become more aware of their learning journey.

In my Computing lessons, I relate computing concepts to real-world applications, such as how algorithms are used in search engines or how data security is crucial for online privacy. This helps students understand the relevance of what they're learning , not only learn the fundamentals of computing but also develop critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills which will benefit them in their future studies and careers.
