Luca

My name is Luca Allievi, I am a 32 years old Italian chemist. After finishing my MsD in chemistry
at the university of Milan in 2013, I obtained my PhD degree in 2017 at the university Paris
Descartes in Paris under the supervision of prof. Janick Ardisson. My dissertation work dealt with
the total synthesis of Vibsatins A and B. At this stage, I obtained a strong experience in the multi-
step synthesis and functionalization of organic molecules, a deep understanding of
retrosynthetic pathways, resource and laboratory management.
After my PhD, I decided to move to Madrid where I worked as a research associate in medicinal
chemistry at Eli Lilly for more than a year. In this experience I got the opportunity to integrate
concepts and methods employed in private research facilities like respecting strict deadlines,
evaluate task-time-cost balance but also managing multiple different projects simultaneously
observing high quality standards and following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
When the whole research group in Eli Lilly was resolved in 2019, I joined Evotec as a project
manager. I was responsible for the management and supervision of a small team of chemists (4
people) dedicated to the development of medicinal chemistry projects (SAR/SPR studies), the
regular delivery of chemical compounds for biological tests and the arrangement of
computational chemistry simulations. I also involved myself in regular meeting sessions with
clients for scientific and budget discussions.
For personal reasons I needed to move back to Spain and in 2020 I started to work as a process
chemist in SEDQ here in Barcelona. Nowadays, I am responsible for a larger team aimed to
process development. My main goal nowadays is to explore, develop and validate new synthetic
routes aimed to the synthesis of pheromones starting from a micro scale, up to a pilot scale. My
day-by-day is divided into multiple tasks like supervising the scientific direction of the team,
planning productions and developments depending on commercial needing and business
opportunities. For example, last year we had been able to scale up an ozonolysis reaction from
small scale (10g) up to a pilot of 150kg exploiting gas-injection in a recirculating cooled tower.
Also, during these three years I have been able to successfully implant new technologies such as
photochemistry, flow-chemistry and pressure-related reactions in the company and to
implement a DOE approach in order to overcome the most challenging problems related to the
synthesis of semiochemicals.
Personally, at the moment I am looking for a new opportunity which will allow me to keep
growing as a professional in a more advanced multidisciplinary domain such like a multinational
company will for sure provide, this would be the perfect environment in order to further develop
my competences and stimulate the scientific curiosity that always pushed me.
I am an eager learner, team player, goal focused and a passion driven person, highly self-
motivated and always enthusiast to prove himself, I also speak fluently four languages (English,
French, Castilian Spanish, Italian plus some notions of German and Catalan).
