María Del Mar Serrano

I am a specialist in teaching spanish as a foreign language, with a BA in Psychology. My background in psychology supports my strength in motivating and inspiring students in their spanish language aquisition. My clear vocation for pedagogy and for helping people brings joy to my work and excitement to the learning process.

Since 2011 I have been teaching Spanish in different contexts. I have worked in language academies both in Madrid and Barcelona, and I have collaborated with corporations to develop their international employees' spanish skills. I have also developed a successful private practice in which I support families who have come to Spain for extended time periods. Each family and each individual has a unique background and goal. I personalize instructions to meet those goals and to inspire further exploration of the spanish language and culture.

My role as an educator is different from many other instructors. I see myself as a facilitator of a respectful and motivating atmosphere that allows linguistic and personal growth to happen at a comfortable, yet productive pace. I work with each of my students to find creative solutions to their struggles, whether they are regarding memorization of conjugations or determining the difference between spanish's multiple past tenses.

Teaching is my passion. It keeps me on my toes and keeps me young at heart. It is a never ending process of professional and intellectual development, as I continually learn new strategies and skills to share with my students. It allows me to be creative in my lessons and activities. It allows me to work with a variety of people, providing me the opportunity to see the world through different lenses.

I believe it is my passion for teaching that shines through and provides my students with a unique learning experience. In bringing joy and growth to their world, they bring joy and growth to my own. I can not imagine a better profession.
