During my undergraduate studies, I spent a semester as a teacher's assistant in both a sixth grade and ninth grade class to implement the skills I was learning about in my education classes. I also received my TEFL certification through my Bachelor's coursework. Throughout high school I volunteered as an English teacher's assistant with various global nonprofit organizations in international classrooms. I also taught a two-month summer literacy program to second grade students in connection with nonprofit work in Miami, FL. One of the most rewarding and challenging experiences as a teacher was teaching in my second language (Spanish) for both a middle school class in Ecuador, and for one month with kindergarten and third grade classes in Nicaragua. These meaningful experiences with students from global classes catalyzed my desire to study international education and gave me valuable experience teaching English as a foreign language.
I use a communicative-based approach for English language learning. I also like to specialize the reading and writing content to match students' interests so it is engaging and applicable.
