Mike Fothergill

About me
I'm Mike and I'm from Brighton in England. I have a southern British accent with hints of Northern English from my 10 years living in Manchester. I'm an English teacher, applied mycologist, and food & drink enthusiast with many years of experience owning and operating businesses. In 2024, I sold my mycology / agriculture / art & design business and moved from Manchester to Barcelona. Upon arrival, I trained as an English teacher and have been teaching specific language courses for teenagers studying STEM subjects with a goal of inspiring creativity and a sense of excitement for the possibilities that studying STEM can facilitate. My interests lie where art and science meet. My kitchen is often full of fermentations and, where possible, I love to work with artists to help them incorporate living aspects into their creations.

My classes
I have ADHD and dyslexia, so my classes are fast-paced and entirely conversation-based. We will talk in depth about life, current events, work, or whatever else you find interesting. Lessons will be spontaneously generated based on the topic of our conversations and your specific learning goals.

Beliefs
I believe in fluency over perfect language usage and strongly believe that you should never let grammar get in the way of saying something interesting. I think the most important thing to achieve in learning an extra language is reaching a point where you can express your personality. I will aim to help you be the best version of you, in English.
