I believe learning a language should be fun, rather than just listening to and memorizing information. My approach is to use games, songs, activities, etc. to keep the student engaged and motivated. I believe strategies like this also promote memorization of the material in a much more effective manner than simply listening to a teacher talk. I also think it’s very important to build confidence in a student. When learning a new language, it can be intimidating to start integrating it in your everyday life outside of the classroom. I make sure to let my students know that there is no such thing as failure in learning, and simply trying puts them in a great position. Through positive feedback, encouragement, and patience, I foster a sense of security in the student that helps them realize there is no fear in making mistakes, and making mistakes is part of learning!
