Rodrigo Faina

La docencia ha ocupado siempre un lugar esencial en la trayectoria profesional de Rodrigo Faina, entendida como un pilar en el desarrollo social y humano del individuo. A lo largo de más de veintiocho años ha colaborado con instituciones en Europa y Estados Unidos, especialmente con CODARTS (Róterdam) y TAI (Madrid). En esta última ejerció durante doce años como profesor de composición y orquestación, además de dirigir el Grado en Composición, donde contribuyó a la creación del primer programa universitario de composición en España.

Rodrigo Faina es un compositor cuya música a menudo trasciende las convenciones y las anticuadas distinciones de género. Un alquimista capaz de fusionar las técnicas de la música contemporánea con las tradiciones del jazz, el tango y otros géneros populares, creando un universo sonoro exuberante, progresivo y evocador, inconfundiblemente propio.

La naturaleza impredecible y aventurera de su obra lo sitúa en una posición particular dentro del panorama musical contemporáneo, lo que le ha valido el respeto y la admiración de figuras clave de la escena internacional, pero que al mismo tiempo lo coloca en conflicto tanto con la vanguardia como con los compositores clásicos conceptualistas.

La música de Rodrigo se inspira en la literatura, la desigualdad social y las imágenes abstractas, y su propósito es desarrollar y renovar el patrimonio y las tradiciones musicales sin perder la conexión con los aspectos emocionales, expresivos y espirituales de la música.

Su música ha sido interpretada en prestigiosos escenarios como la Kölner Philharmonie, WDR Funkhaus Köln, De Doelen y Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ.

Las obras de Rodrigo han sido encargadas y/o interpretadas por miembros de la Netherlands Philharmonic y de la Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, DoelenEnsemble, Metropole Orchestra, Zapp4, Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, Change Ensemble, David Kweksilber Big Band, Bulgaria National Radio Symphony, Platypus Ensemble, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Vince Mendoza y muchos otros.

Rodrigo estudió composición con Paul van Brugge y Klaas de Vries en el Conservatorio de Róterdam, donde obtuvo los títulos de Bachelor y Master con honores. Durante sus estudios de composición en dicho conservatorio, también asistió a clases con Robin de Raaff, Luc Brewaeys, Peter Jan Wageman, René Uijlenhoet y Patrick van Deurzen.

Además de su formación académica formal, Rodrigo participó en clases magistrales con, entre otros, Steve Reich, Maria Schneider, Samuel Adler, Kris Defoort, John Scofield, John Abercrombie y Jack DeJohnette.

Rodrigo ha recibido becas del FPK (Fondo de las Artes Escénicas de los Países Bajos), el premio HSP Huygens a la excelencia y del Ministerio de Educación de los Países Bajos.
