Exercises for a conversational English language class

Are you looking for some fun and engaging exercises for your conversational English language class? Do you want to spice up your lessons with some creative and interactive activities? If so, you've come to the right place! In this blog post, I will share with you some of my favorite exercises that I use in my own classes. These exercises are suitable for learners of all levels and ages, and they will help you improve your speaking, listening, vocabulary and grammar skills. Let's get started!

1. Two Truths and a Lie: This is a classic icebreaker that can be used to introduce yourself and your classmates. Each person has to say three statements about themselves: two true ones and one false one. The others have to guess which one is the lie. For example: "I have a pet snake, I love chocolate cake, and I can speak five languages." Can you guess which one is the lie?

2. Taboo: This is a fun game that can help you expand your vocabulary and practice describing words without using them. You need a set of cards with words on them, such as "banana", "snowman", "guitar", etc. One person picks a card and tries to make their partner guess the word without saying it or any related words. For example: "It's yellow, it's long, it's sweet, you peel it before eating it." What is it?

3. Role Play: This is a great way to practice real-life situations and dialogues in English. You can use scenarios from books, movies, TV shows or your own imagination. For example: "You are at a restaurant and you want to order food." One person plays the role of the waiter/waitress and the other plays the role of the customer. You have to act out the conversation using appropriate language and expressions.

4. Storytelling: This is an exercise that can unleash your creativity and imagination while improving your speaking skills. You can use pictures, words or objects as prompts to create stories in English. For example: "You see a picture of a castle on fire." You have to make up a story about what happened using past tense verbs and descriptive adjectives.

5. Debate: This is an exercise that can challenge your critical thinking and persuasion skills while exposing you to different opinions and perspectives on various topics. You need a list of controversial statements or questions such as "Should animals be used for testing?", "Is social media good or bad for society?", etc. You have to choose a side (for or against) and give arguments to support your position while listening to and responding to your opponent's arguments.

These are just some examples of exercises that you can use in your conversational English language class. Of course, there are many more possibilities depending on your level, interests and goals. The most important thing is to have fun while learning! Remember that practice makes perfect!
