I had the opportunity to take an introductory level Spanish course with Derek Segebarth this past year. It was obvious that he was very passionate about teaching the language, but I also found him to be patient and very encouraging as I tackled this new learning experience. He was able to demonstrate language pronunciation for me while presenting any correction in a clear, but light-hearted, manner. He seemed to have a broad base of knowledge in several languages. He helped me see the “roots” of a word and often included historical or cultural references with his instruction. Grammar was the hardest for me as I struggled to relate to the terms used. However, Derek was able to make the group classes a safe and fun environment while still offering time for individual questions, feedback, and learning assistance. I can positively recommend him to you as a language instructor.
