As a teacher I prefer topic-based learning, rather than learning skills independently.
For B1-B2 students, language and grammar are embedded into lessons centred on a certain theme. We use this as an 'anchor' to help the student avoid the confusion that can arise from teaching a range of 'general grammar and vocabulary'.
For C1-C2 students, I like to discover language through the exploration of different topics: I have a wide-range of interests, from politics to economics, literature to film, or music to the arts in general. Working through lectures, documentaries, or articles together will help us find the intricacies of the language, and uncover new vocabulary, grammar points, idiomatic and academic language. For those interested, I have a particular fondness for Literature, and would be happy to help students dig into subtext and structure, looking at metaphor, symbolism, word choice, plot, and so much more!
I hope we have a chance to meet in the near future!
