It depends on whether the class is conversational, exam preparation, or business, but I generally start with 5 minutes of general conversation, asking about their week, any news, their families if you know something about them etc. This relaxes the student and establishes a good relationship. Then lead into the lesson by either checking any homework or telling them what you plan to do in the lesson. I try to spend about 15 to 20 minutes on some reading or comprehension, correcting any mispronunciation if necessary, then another 15 to 20 minutes of some listening or speaking. The last 10 to 15 minutes I like to do something fun, such as a vocabulary game, quiz or a graded reader with audio. I interchange the main part of the lesson with writing as needed. But it is important to try and incorporate the student's needs into the lesson as much as possible. Occasionally I do something completely different like a discussion of an online article, or poetry or a play, as long as it is relevant and interesting! Hope this helps, good luck and have fun!
