I have been teaching English to adult language learners for more than 15 years, and I have a master’s degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I mainly focus on task-based and context-based teaching to help my students internalize the language. I can work with my own materials, language learning books such as Touchstone, Viewpoint, Headway, American English File, English Result, etc., or go with something more in line with my students’ needs and interests.
Knowing a language is one thing, but having the skills and the knowledge to teach that language is a whole other aspect. Being a good language teacher is not only about the way you speak that language. Through education, experience, talent, and patience, you can become a great teacher, and I believe that as a teacher, I have all those qualities.
Apart from helping someone learn a language, being a teacher means having the gift of influencing other people's lives and making a difference. It has given me the voice to raise awareness and also learn from others to be a better person. Building a relationship based on trust and respect has been the foundation of my work throughout my teaching career.
I would like to highlight the fact that most of the work of language learning is done by the students, and teachers play a small but rather significant role in the learning process. A good teacher is merely a tool that can help learners find and build the motivation and autonomy they need to become competent speakers of a second language.
