Before anything else I focus on speaking with correct pronunciation from the start. It just makes students confident and optimistic and they easily pursue the rest with great enthusiasm as they realise that it’s a language that they can speak and explain things in first of all, rather than it’s just a bunch of grammatical rules and structures.
Depending on the level of students I pick up real life things such as news stories, articles and so on which let them feel that it’s real instead of theoretical only.
