If I can manage to make my classes both fun and productive, then I'm a happy teacher!
I think it is important to help my students with their confidence, especially in speaking and listening. For this reason I try to incorporate as much practice as possible into my courses, whether preparing for exams or not.
I believe it is important to have a good understanding of grammar, but I never want my students to feel overwhelmed by it. So my preference is to always learn grammar in the context of something which interests them, and practice it as much as possible in interesting activities, not just repetitive exercises.
After almost ten years giving classes to many types of students with diverse goals, I feel confident that I am able to help people see a real progression in their English level. For me it is important to keep classes diverse and dynamic to make sure that people stay motivated and interested. I believe that learning a language needs dedication and consistency so I always try to leave my students with various options so that they can keep working outside the class, whether that be writing assignments, reading assignments, or finding interesting articles which they would like to discuss in class.
I am happy to work with small groups of students, and often find that when friends come to class together they end up learning more because they are more motivated outside of class and have other people who they can ask questions to and practice with.
I'll look forward to hearing from you!
Nick.
