Oscar Lyons

An MA graduate from the University of Bristol, I have been playing guitar for almost 20 years and have been teaching guitar for over three years.

I teach both electric and acoustic guitar, both with finger-picking technique. Classes are completely tailored to the needs and interests of each of my students. You may want to focus on theory and technique, or to expand your knowledge of the instrument. Alternatively you might prefer to learn elements of rhythmic precision and feeling, or you may want to learn approaches to soloing and creating your own parts. It can also be very beneficial to play together to practice general musicianship to prepare you for playing in bands and ensembles.

Should the student desire, I also transcribe and teach my students their favourite songs. As a singer, I am also very happy to spend time teaching playing guitar and singing at the same time, or to teach approaches to songwriting/lyrics.

Over the years I have played in many different ensembles and bands covering many different styles of music, from rock/indie and folk to jazz/hip hop and soul, so I’m prepared to help my students achieve a good level of playing in whichever style they wish to pursue.

Classes are for beginners and intermediate players. I am happy to give clases in English or in Spanish, whichever my student prefers. Each class will be designed according to the abilities and desires of my students.
