Wendi Smallwood

I am a university-level English instructor with over 20 years of international teaching experience. I hold an undergraduate degree and a postgraduate diploma in Applied Linguistics, and my professional background includes teaching in Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Spain.
My work has been largely shaped by multilingual and multicultural academic environments, where I have specialized in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), ICLHE/EMI contexts, and academic literacy. I have extensive experience designing and delivering student-centered, communicative courses tailored to the disciplinary and professional needs of learners across a range of fields, particularly in higher education.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have been involved in materials development, continuous assessment, online and blended learning, and the use of virtual learning platforms such as Moodle and Zoom. I also have experience contributing to institutional language initiatives and collaborating with faculty in English-medium instruction settings.
As a native English speaker with a working knowledge of Spanish, I am comfortable working in linguistically diverse contexts and value inclusive, responsive pedagogy. I am motivated by helping students develop the language skills and confidence needed to communicate effectively in academic and professional settings.
