I began swimming when I was 7 years old, and quickly began going to swim meets in Venezuela to test my skills. I went to my first national championships when I was 11, where I became National Champion at age 13. I hit a rough moment shortly after, I did not drop any time in any event for the next two years after being in the very top. That was when I realized that discipline and passion overcome talent. It was during this moment that I started working at my swimming club's swim camp, where I had an important role with kids from ages 7-14 due to my previous experience as an informal assistant coach in my club. All the hard work paid off, because when I was 17 I got to represent Venezuela at the Central American and Caribbean Youth Games, where I obtained three gold medals, in the 50 Backstroke, 100 Backstroke and 200 Butterfly. I got a scholarship to swim in the United States where I learned a lot from my new coach, taking my training to another level. I kept getting better and learning along the way, where I worked at the NYU Swim Camp with kids from ages 5-13. I believe that the key to success is not in talent, and with my previous experiences I can help you to not only have a healthier lifestyle and make improvements on the sport, but also to have real passion for something and realizing that hard work does pay off.
