I have been teaching English in Spain for over 11 years, and I believe that successful Cambridge exam preparation requires time, discipline and consistent work. There are no shortcuts: exam technique is important, but it cannot replace a strong command of English.
My preparation focuses on all four communication skills: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. Extensive exposure to English is essential, so students will work with a wide variety of authentic material: films, series, interviews, podcasts, news, books, newspapers and articles. The more English you listen to and read, the more naturally you develop your vocabulary, comprehension and feel for the language.
For the Use of English paper, advanced grammar and vocabulary need to become practically automatic. We will work systematically on structures such as inversion, cleft sentences, modal verbs in the present and past, passive structures, advanced conditionals, set phrases, collocations and a wide range of advanced phrasal verbs. The objective is not simply to learn these structures, but to internalize them and use them accurately under exam conditions.
We will also work extensively on Speaking and Writing, developing the ability to express and justify ideas, interact naturally, organize arguments and use a wide range of appropriate language. Regular exam practice will help students become familiar with the format, timing and demands of each paper.
The aim is therefore twofold: to prepare you for the exam and, in the process, genuinely improve your English.
