Hi Isaac!
First their similarities. The three modal verbs mean the same and are used to express PROBABILITY. What makes them different is their use, so it is the context the one accepting one or another.
MAY
- to ask polite questions as in ¨May I open the window?¨
- probability with a high level of certainty as in ¨I MAY come tomorrow but only if I am free.¨
- (the other is the month of the year between April and June, so don´t worry XD ...)
MIGHT
- a 50% of probability as in ¨She might come if she doesn´t have any better plan.¨
COULD
- can be the past of the verb CAN as in ¨I could skate until I broke my knee.¨
- to ask polite questions when other person performs the action as in ¨Could you open the window for me, please?¨ or ¨I COULD go but I am not sure.¨
And remember PROBABILITY, don´t confuse with POSSIBILITY (that is implied in the meaning).
Hope it helps you!!
Sonia
