Venturing into the online teaching world

I am certain I am not the only English teacher who has just ventured into the massive market of online teaching. I too am certain that I am not the only one who has found the whole situation very daunting. One moment you´re in the classroom, buzzing around, moving from room to room, lesson plans all over the place, and the next, you´re at home with just you, your living room and webcam. A few taps into google, and here we are!

Having worked in schools and academies, the online teaching forum is not novel and it´s not really new, but it is the unknown entity for me. I see that we have a massive advantage in that we can continue to teach our students and thrive in a whole new forum. Paperless is the way forward, and online really does strip lessons back to the basics of communication. We are so lucky we have an alternative forum to work from, unlike many other sectors across the country.

I have such mixed feelings, as we have opened up a whole new way of teaching to all students from absolutely anywhere - for us as teachers as well as students. Yet I really still do miss being face to face with a student or group and feel the atmosphere. Adaptation is key for us all during such difficult times, and we all need to make an effort to ensure we bring that atmosphere into our online class.
