Como profesora de inglés, voy a hablaros sobre los adjetivos posesivos, aprendiendo a utilizarlo a través de algunos ejemplos y ejercicios.

¿Qué son los adjetivos posesivos?

Los adjetivos posesivos son aquellos que van delante del sustantivo para indicar posesión. Los vamos a utilizar para cosas o personas.

¿Cuáles son los adjetivos posesivos?

Por un lado, vamos a tener los subject pronouns que son: I, you, we, they, he, she and it y por el otro, los possessive adjectives tales como:

  1. My > "This is my chair"
  2. Your > "Is this your bag?"
  3. His > "Those are his keys"
  4. Her > "That is her phone"
  5. Its > "I study in an online academy. Its name is English House"
  6. Our > This is our house"
  7. Your > "These are your books"
  8. Their > "That is their car".

NOTA: his = of a man, her = of a woman, its = of a thing, their = of people or things.

Algunos errores frecuentes

Es importante que los puedas diferenciar de los pronombres posesivos (mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, yours, theirs) ya que es un error frecuente. No es lo mismo decir:

"This is my chair" (Esta es silla) que decir "This chair is mine" (Esta silla es mía).

Los pronombres posesivos, además, son utilizados para reemplazar el sustantivo.

  • Además, los adjetivos posesivos no cambian con sustantivos plurales, por lo cual sería incorrecto decir: ours students. Si bien en español los adjetivos deben coincidir en número con el sujeto, esto no pasa en inglés y es bueno tenerlo en cuenta para evitar cometer errores.
  • Por otro lado, es muy frecuente la confusión entre it's o its.
    It's = It is > It is a school.
    Its = posessive > Its flag is red and yellow.
