Past simple
1. REGULAR VERBS:
AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE
I worked I didn't work Did I work?
you worked you didn0t work Did you work?
he/she/it worked he/she/it didn't work Did/he/she/it work?
we worked we didn't work Did we work?
you worked you didn't work Did you work?
they worked they didn't work Did they work?
2. IRREGULAR VERBS:
AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE
I ate I didn't eat Did I eat?
you ate you didn't eat Did you eat?
he/she/ it ate he/she/it didn't eat Did he/she/it eat?
we ate we didn't eat Did we eat?
you ate you didn't eat Did you eat?
they ate they didn't eat Did they eat?
Past continuous
(REGULAR AND IRREGULAR VERBS):
AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE
I was eating I wasn't eating Was I eating?
you were eating you weren't eating Were you eating?
he/she/it was eating he/she/it wasn't eating Was he/she/it eating?
we were eating we weren't eating Were we eating?
you were eating you weren't eating Were you eating?
they were eating they weren't eating Were they eating?
DIFFERENCE:
- I was working when my mother came
- When my mother came, I was working
- While my mother was working, Peter studied
- Peter studied while my mother was working
La principal diferencia entre estos dos tiempos es la siguiente:
- WHEN VA SEGUIDO DEL PAST SIMPLE
- WHILE VA SEGUIDO DEL PAST CONTINUOUS
Sin embargo, hay que tener cuidado porque esta regla no es exacta. Revisemos el siguiente ejemplo:
- While the actor was performing, the director was directing.
Esto se debe al hecho de que ambas acciones suceden al mismo tiempo.
